This course is an elective course particularly designed for the ITM NCHU students admitted for the program MBA in Electronic Commerce.
Medium of instruction of this course is English, as the instructor speaks poor Chinese.
The loading of this course is not light.
Students are expected to attend all lectures and examinations. Attendance will not be accounted for a part of the final score.
But, absence without proper reason will be. Students are expected to complete all courseworks.
Professor John Sum is a strict person and sometimes a monster. His expectation on the behavior and the performance of a student is stringent.
It is simply because John Sum has been teaching in the areas of electronic commerce and system development for more than two decades.
Materials in his mind is abundant. Only some of them are extracted and complied as the teaching materials for the course.

Students are expected to have the following skills and knowledge.
- Able to read, write, speak and listen in English.
- Skillful in the use of word processing software for report writing and presentation.
- Skillful in searching information over the Internet.
- Knowledge in one of the following subjects:
Principles of Computing, Computer Literacy, Introduction to Information Systems, Introduction to Computer Science,
Introduction to Information Technologies, Management Information Systems or related subjects.
Students are expected to have a good health. Then, the students are able to work over serval nights.

- Types of website - Business and industry dependent.
- Fundamental concpets of websites, management principles and system development.
- Critical factors for a website development.
- Customer-oriented thinking on operations design.
- Advanced topics.

Certain related concepts and terminologies will be discussed and clarified in the lectures.
The style of teaching and learning is quite flexible. It could be in form of lecturing, discussion or video watching.
Sometimes, the instructor will share some industrial cases which are learned from his friends, magazine reports or journal articles.
Materials, like handouts and reading articles, will be uploaded on the course homepage once they have been ready.
Some videos in YouTube and some articles in Wikipedia are also included as supportive materials.
Assignments will be given whenever a topic has or some topics have been delivered.
After taking the course, student should be able to equip with the following skills.

- Study the articles/literatures related to websites and information systems development.
- Identify his/her roles/responsibilities in a development project.
- Know the roles/responsibilities of other participants in a development project.
- Analyze and define the requirements of a website and an information system.
- Analyze the productivity (profit/loss) of a website and an information system.
- Analyze the business needs and design the corresponding business operations.
- Analyze an existing commerce website and identify the behind business operations that it supports.

Assignments and reports must be edited by a word processing software, like MS WORD or Pages, and submitted either in WORD or PDF format.
The documents must be submitted to the Gmail account johnsum.nchu@gmail.com.
As the email account is used for many courses,
the email heading and the filename for assignment submission must be conformed to the following formats.
- Email heading: ECWD2021_Assignment0x_StudentID
- Filename: ECWD2021_Assignment0x_StudentID
The email heading and the filename for project report submission must be conformed to the following formats.
- Email heading: ECWD2021_Project_Report_V1_StudentID
- Filename: ECWD2021_Project_Report_V1_StudentID
'V1' refers to the version number of the report.
For the submission of progress reports, replace the string 'Project_Report' in the heading and the filename by 'Progress_Report_I' and 'Progress_Report_II'.

- All questions will be written in English and students must answer in English.
- Examination duration is 3 hours.

- There will be no supplementary exam.
- Student absence from exam must hand-in medical certificate (or alternative proof) within one working day for partial grading or alternative exam.
- Exceptional case will be handled in individual basis.

Guidlines on Project Presentation
- Attendance
- Students have to attend all presentations.
- Student absence from presentation must hand-in medical certificate (or alternative proof) within one working day for partial grading.
- Student absence from presentation with no explanation about his/her absence will definitely hamper the grading of the group he/she belongs.
- Schedule
- Presentation schedule will not be disclosed before the first day of presentation, and it is arranged in random basis.
- Special arrangement will only be handled in a very exceptional situation (with evidence proof please).
- Dress Code
- Formal dressing is not mandatory, but is an advantage. Smart casual is recommended.
- Santos, short pants, hip-hop, T-Shirt and other informal dressing should be avoided.
- Informal dressing will only be allowed in rainy day.
- Project Grading
- Group marks will be given in accordance with (i) project report plus [+] (ii) presentation minus [-] (iii) late submission penalty.
